Both girls spent some of their service in the Women's Land Army working at Bull's Hall, Knodishall, doing general farm work and milking. Connie Brinkley was the first of the two girls to work there and had spent some time working in service and the confectionery trade before enrolling in the WLA in East Suffolk in July 1942. She spent four years in the Land Army before her marriage to farmer's son, Alan R. Abbott in Tattingstone. Connie Hobson enrolled in West Yorkshire after peace was declared in 1945 and was subsequently posted to Columbyne Hall in Stowupland where she was trained in milking and dairy work. She was sent to Bull's Hall to help out for a week but ended up working there for five years. During her time at Knodishall, she returned to Columbyne Hall to take a Proficiency Test in Milking and Dairy Work and was awarded a Proficiency Badge for her efforts.
