The Case of Us - The Play
The Case of Us is a new original play inspired by the real stories of the Women’s Land Army in Suffolk.
Set around the fictional Mill House Hostel in Occold, it follows a group of young Land Girls who leave home to work the fields during wartime - forging friendships, facing challenges, and discovering who they are in a world changing around them.
The play blends historical research, Suffolk rural heritage, and original character work to honour the women who kept the country fed. Alongside the Land Girls, the story also features the people whose lives cross theirs - from local farm workers to USAAF airmen and POW labourers - each adding depth, humour, and heart.
Our Facebook page will follow the development of the project: artwork, research, behind‑the‑scenes glimpses, and updates as the play grows.
If you’d like to stay in touch or hear when the Crowdfunder launches, you’re very welcome to follow our journey.

About the Playwright
"I’m Nicky, the playwright behind The Case of Us. I’m writing the story, shaping the characters, and weaving together the real history of the Women’s Land Army with the fictional world of Mill House.
My work combines historical research, local Suffolk heritage, and the voices of the women who lived it, to create a play that feels authentic, heartfelt and rooted in truth.
Everything you see here - the characters, the world, the themes, the artwork and the development updates - grows from that writing process.
Thank you for following along as the play takes shape. It’s a privilege to bring these stories to life."

A warm welcome from the Suffolk Women’s Land Army Memorial Trust

We use digital tools - including AI - thoughtfully and responsibly to help us preserve, share and celebrate the real stories of the Women’s Land Army. Accuracy, respect and care for historical truth are at the heart of everything we do.
The online world can be a busy and sometimes misleading place, so we always encourage a simple sense‑check: trust nothing at first glance, check everything, and stay cautious with links, stories and profiles.
A little care helps keep our community safe, informed and focused on what matters most - honouring the women who fed the nation.
Thank you for being here, and for helping us keep their legacy alive.
Let’s discover Mill House…
Mill House is the fictional Women’s Land Army hostel at the heart of the play.
It’s tucked into a real Suffolk landscape, surrounded by farms, fields, and the rhythms of wartime work.
It’s where friendships form, stories unfold, and the girls build a life together far from home.

The play is about eight young women serving in the Women's Land Army who come from and to Suffolk during the Second World War - with many threads about learning, laughter, love and loss... All weaved together it's a story of entwined lives lived out in the fields and the enduring sisterhood that was grown there.
The Facebook page for the play will chart it's development from concept to production with insights into the writing, character storyline developments and explore the wartime world that the girls are living through.
Music created for the play will be released through sponsorship tiers in our crowdfunding strategy, and sponsors of the play will receive exclusive bonus features along the way!
