Lasses from Leeds descend upon The Red House, Mettingham on 6th September 1943

A group of young ladies working in the tailoring industry in Leeds enrolled in the West Yorks WLA on July 28th,1943 and were duly posted to East Suffolk two months later on September 9th, 1943. Most of them had been born within days of each other and lived in the Leeds 9 or 11 districts. They were sent to The Red House, Mettingham (a WLA hostel in the north of the county) near Bungay and would have been working out in the fields during their WLA service. Some of them remained at Mettingham until they left the Land Army whilst a few of them transferred to other regions.
